AMNS International School congratulates Mr. Somnath Mukherjee, PGT – Geography and English, on his selection among the Top Five Geography Finalists nationally at the inaugural India’s Best Teachers’ Awards 2026, presented by the Shiv Nadar Foundation and Saïd Business School, University of Oxford.
The awards recognise educators of Grades IX–XII for innovative pedagogy and impactful classroom practice. From 10,000+ registrations across 28 States and 08 Union Territories, 79 educators progressed to the national finalist stage. Mr. Mukherjee was the only teacher from Surat city among the five Geography finalists.
His pedagogical portfolio showcased field-based learning through the Tapi Estuary, Hazira industrial corridor and mobile GIS cartography which led to an invitation to publish a research paper with the Royal Geographical Society, London.
At the Grand Finale held at Shiv Nadar University, Delhi-NCR, on 4 September 2026, Mr. Mukherjee was presented with institutional memorabilia and an Oxford–Saïd fellowship kit.
The distinction recognises Mr. Mukherjee’s contribution to Geography education and reflects AMNSIS’s supportive academic environment, which encourages innovative and field-based approaches to learning.
