Reimagining Writing Pedagogy: English Department Workshop

16-Mar-2026

On 16 March 2026, AMNS International School organised a workshop titled “Processes for Expository and Creative Writing” for the English Department, led by Anahita Lee from Oxford University Press.

The session highlighted the effective use of graphic storytelling, showing how visual elements such as panels, symbols, and expressions can simplify complex concepts and enhance comprehension.

The approach encouraged a shift towards art-integrated, student-centred learning, aligned with NCF 2023. A key takeaway was the role of warm-up activities in writing—not as an add-on, but as a starting point. Teachers explored a range of pre-writing strategies designed to spark ideas, ease hesitation, and prepare students for meaningful expression.

The workshop also covered story types, character classification, concept-based questioning, and paragraph structuring, supported by interactive techniques such as story relay, genre transformation, and guided prompts.

Practical classroom models—Cave Time, Campfire, and Waterhole—offered clear ways to balance independent thinking, collaboration, and shared learning. The session provided valuable insights and practical tools, reinforcing that effective writing begins with thoughtful preparation, purposeful structure, and the freedom to create.
